Because Belated Happens - Quirky Critters

This post originally appeared on the Stampin' Up! Corporate Blog.  The content herein is my sole creation.

Hello friends!  As the holiday season approaches, I started thinking about birthdays...

Wait, what?!  Yes, birthdays!  Throughout November and December, it seems the holidays consume us - between the shopping, the decorating, and the baking, the visitors from out of town and the holiday parties, we are running on fruit cake and shortbread for two months straight!  We all know someone who has a birthday in the midst of these festivities, though, and I’m sure we’ve all heard the battlecry of the December babies -

“I never get to celebrate my birthday - it just gets lumped in with Christmas!”

I’m here today to help share some completely non-Christmas birthday joy with those people - because we all know them, and they deserve their own day!

But here’s the kicker... we’ve been busy.  It’s the busiest time of the year.  And if you’re like me, you’ll be sure to get that birthday card in the mail... eventually.

If you’re already late, that’s okay - there’s no time like the present to celebrate, even if you’re a little slow.

I brought out the adorable Quirky Critters Stamp Set to create some fun Belated Birthday cards - after all, who knows more about being late than a sloth and a snail?

The stamps in Quirky Critters pair perfectly with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, and I couldn’t wait to get colouring!  Starting with the sloth, I stamped the image in Tuxedo Black Momento Ink and, once dry, coloured him in with Stampin’ Blends in Pool Party and Smoky Slate, then brushed his tree branch with my Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker.  After die-cutting with the Layering Squares Framelits using my Big Shot, my adorable focal point was ready!  A few quick layers of cardstock and a bit of Basic Black Bakers’ Twine and this adorable card was ready to go!

After creating the sloth card, I thought the snail image from Quirky Critters would make an adorable birthday card, too - however, he was paired with a different sentiment altogether!  No problem - masking to the rescue!

To create this image, I masked off the sentiment on the snail stamp using washi tape, then stamped the snail in Momento Tuxedo Black Ink, then masked the sloth stamp to add the sentiment.  Just perfect!  The snail needed a little colour, so I filled him in with Stampin’ Blends in Calypso Coral and Crumb Cake.  Isn’t he darling?  A few pops of colour from Daffodil Delight Cardstock added just the right amount of brightness, and a twirl of Whisper White Bakers’ Twine completed the card.

Or did it?  I needed the rest of my sentiment!

Using the same masking technique, I added the remainder of the sentiment on the inside of the card.  Too cute!

Everyone deserves a birthday card, but sometimes life gets in the way and we’re a little behind schedule... and that’s okay, when you’ve got a snail and a sloth to help you out!  Send those cards - separate of your Christmas greetings! - and whether they’re on time or not, you’ll be guaranteed to bring a smile to someone’s face.

Milestone Birthday? Heck Yes! - Great Big Greetings

Hey friends!  I'm a day behind on blogging this week - whoops, I missed Friday!  I was sedated for a medical test on Thursday night and was groggy beyond belief yesterday... if I had blogged, it probably wouldn't have made much sense anyway!

Today's card is PERFECT for a milestone birthday - have a friend with the big something-0 coming up soon?  I've got you covered!  This fun colour pallet is great for my recipient, but can easily be changed up to fit anyone in your life.

This fantastic, bold, fun sentiment is from Great Big Greetings, as is the "yay" in the background - the only addition is that tiny birthday cake, added in from a host exclusive set - another one you won't want to miss, called You're Delightful.  So much fun!

I received my pre-order goodies from the upcoming Occasions 2018 Catalogue, so I'll be crafting the night away (and prepping a new class for the new year!) tonight.  Eek!  See you Tuesday, friends!

Wonderful Day - In The City

Good morning, friends, and happy Thursday!  Tomorrow is a day off for our whole family - are you in the same boat?  We're looking forward to a long weekend ahead.

Today's card is a bright and fresh one using a Host set from the 2017-2018 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue.

It's so easy to forget about the Annual when the Holiday Mini is out and the Occasions Mini is just around the corner, but there are so many great sets in there that deserve love all year 'round!  I love this sweet set - available exclusively to party hosts or single orders totalling over $200 in retail sales - to welcome a new friend to the block.  Wouldn't it be a treat to receive this after moving to a new neighbourhood?

Yeah - neighboUrhood.  This set has BOTH SPELLINGS.  My Canadian heart is extra happy.

One other cool thing I want to point out - the White Perfect Accents have gone grey!  No, they're not just getting older and going a little grey with age like the rest of us... Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers can colour on plastic, including these embellishments, pearls, rhinestones, and more!  Just another fabulous use for these fantastic markers.  I can't get enough of them.

See you again soon!

You're Lovely - Naturally Eclectic

Hello friends!  I hope you had a great weekend!  I used it to catch up on sleep, mostly - whoops!  Sometimes we all need those days, though, and I remain unapologetic about it.

I just finished uploading another batch of cards to share over the coming week and NONE of them are for the holidays!  I can't believe we're already creeping toward mid-December.  It is now less than three weeks until Christmas, which is pure craziness.  I promise I'll have more wintery stuff coming soon, but I know we can all use these everyday cards at all times of the year!

Today's gem (haha...) is bold and bright and lovely, all thanks to that gorgeous Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.  I absolutely adore the watercolour gem pattern on this one - and it's a great colour combination, too.  This paper is too wonderful.  I've been hoarding it a bit but I must use it up - no sense letting it go to waste!

See you again on Thursday!

Best Time of the Year - Christmas In The Making

Good morning, sunshines!  I'm probably definitely sleeping while this is being posted, and maybe most likely still asleep while you're reading this... this week has kicked my butt something fierce and I plan on spending most of this weekend in bed with weights on my eyelids.  But if you're more ambitious and you're tackling the holiday cards today, don't worry - I've got a bit of inspiration for you!

I've noticed over the last few posts that most of the cards I post are generally nondenominational winter holiday cards - creating in "general" terms makes it easy to send the card to any recipient, no matter their faith or celebrations at this time of year.  I love the sentiment in Christmas In The Making for that exact reason - with dozens of religious and non-religious holidays in November through January, it really IS the best time of the year!

Wood Textures DSP adds a bit of a rough and rustic touch to what would otherwise be a rather feminine card - it balances out the red gingham, doily, and gold sequins!  I love this card for any recipient.  It reminds me of being snowed in at a cottage in the mountains... which is weird, since that's never happened to me!  :)

Check out the links below to view these products in my online Canadian Stampin' Up! store.  It's a GREAT weekend to get those holiday cards ready - happy crafting!
